YOUTH SPORTS

The H.E.S. is committed to the development of healthy habits and lifestyles through sports and play for our younger members and patrons. Our goal is to promote social-emotional learning and comradery, build confidence and to hone sports and fitness skills in a safe and supportive environment.

Coaches and instructors emphasize positive reinforcement and provide constructive and appropriate feedback. This ensures children enjoy and get the most from their youth sports experiences. 

Basketball
Basketball Clinic

The Skills and Drills Clinic provides an excellent introduction to basketball. Skills such as dribbling, passing, shooting, defending and rebounding are taught. Practices are operated in a structured and organized environment, incorporating warm-ups, age-appropriate skill development, flexibility, coordination and balance, while focusing on improving motor skills. For athletes of high skill sets, the Clinic focuses on nurturing their talent through high-intensity workouts, progression, and rigorous repetitions. 

Shirts will be provided. 

There are four seasons throughout the year; fall, winter, spring and summer. If there is room in a clinic, you can start mid-season with pro-rated costs. 

Monday & Wednesday (10 weeks)

Ages 6-9: 5 – 6 pm

Ages 10-13: 6 pm – 7 pm

  • Members: $500
  • Non-Members: $600

Sunday (10 weeks)

Ages 5-8 (11 am – 12 pm)

Ages 9-11 (12 – 1pm)

  • Members: $250
  • Non-Members: $300

Basketball Training Camp

Aspiring youth athletes will participate in intense basketball training at our advanced (AAU) training camp. Practice and gameplay are at the core of this program with rigorous workouts to help players up their game. Workouts will be both in team and individual settings and participants will learn how to be supportive within a team environment.

Training sessions run by Coach Tone.

Training includes sports equipment such as:

  • VertiMax machine for increased speed and jump height
  • Shooting machine to rebound for you while getting consistent shots
  • D-Man to simulate a real life defender

Monday & Friday

Ages 12-17: 5 – 7 pm

  • Members: $150/monthly
  • Non-Members: $200/monthly

Private Basketball Training with Coach Tone

Intense small group training that includes drills such as ball handling, defensive, offensive, shooting and rebounding. Cardiovascular conditioning, vertimax training to improve speed, and rigorous full body exercises are incorporated to improve overall strength.

Exclusive to members

  • 5 Sessions: $215
  • 10 Sessions: $410
  • Session: $45

Basketball Camp

Throughout the year, we run school holiday basketball camps, such as Winter Holiday Camp, Spring Holiday Camp, MLK Holiday Camp for 5-16 year old youth. Camp usually takes place from 9 am – 3 pm.

Basketball Competitive Team

Martial Arts

Youth Karate Classes

We are a family and team with a common goal of building confidence, discipline and preventing bullying while BELTING UP!

Children in our Martial Art classes learn and display valuable life skills such as patience, focus, kindness, honesty and respect. Your child will also increase their motor skills such as balance, running, blocks, punches, kicks and overall hand-eye coordination, all while socializing and interacting with other children through positive play and direction.

A karate uniform is sold separately for $40. All children will be evaluated and belts will be provided based on ranking.

Martial Arts Competitive Team

Team HES competes year round at various tri-state area tournaments in Sparring, Kata, Self Defense and Weapons.

Swim

Learn To Swim Classes

The Learn to Swim Program is Canarsie’s largest provider of year-round swimming lessons for students of all ages and skill levels. Classes start for children as young as 2 years old. Our experienced Red Cross certified instructors are dedicated to teaching all students to be safe and proficient in the water. Classes are held in our heated Olympic-sized pool.

All students are arranged by age and skill level and placed in small groups to maximize individual, one-on-one attention. After students progress through our introductory swim school, there is an opportunity to try out for our Swim Team, the Hurricanes.

There are four seasons throughout the year; fall, winter, spring and summer. If there is room in a class, you can start mid-season with pro-rated costs.

  • Members: $200/10 week season
  • Non-Members: $250/10 week season

Swim Competitive Team

The Hurricanes compete year round in both short and long course seasons across NY State. Our swimmers qualify for various championship meets including Silvers, Junior Olympics and Easter Zone Competition. New participants must schedule a try out to be on the team.

PRIVATE AND SMALL GROUP LESSONS

The H.E.S. Swim School offers one to one and small group instruction for all ages and levels. Learn swim basics or refine your technique with one of our certified instructors. Drowning prevention and water safety are essential elements of our private lessons curriculum, with elements of water safety knowledge and skills integrated into every level. The H.E.S. Swim School‘s professional Water Safety Instructors are highly motivated to work with you on your specific needs at any level in your journey to become a proficient swimmer.
